Atrovent (generic name: Ipratropium; brand name: Apovent) is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. Atrovent is indicated for maintenance treatment of bronchospasm associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema and when used in combination with other inhaled medicines, for asthma. Atrovent improves air flow by relaxing the muscular tubes (air passages) that carry air to and from your lungs. It begins to act quickly after use but may take up to 2 hours to give maximum benefit.
